چکیده

Dimethylgallium azide (Me2GaN3) and other organogallium azide compounds have attracted recent attention as potential single source precursors for the Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) of GaN semiconductor films.1-7 Gallium nitride is important for applications in near-UV solid-state devices such as high brightness blue LEDs and lasers. As part of our interest in the application of single source precursors for laser-assisted CVD,8-11 we investigated the excited-state properties of Me2GaN3. Solid-state Raman and Infrared studies reported that the molecule consists of trimeric subunits.12,13However, a recent X-ray crystallographic structure shows that dimethylgallium azide is a polymer in the solid state containing low molecular symmetry monomeric subunits.1 During the course of our studies of Me2GaN3, we observed luminescence from both the solid and from solutions. Emission spectra from a few metal azido complexes have been reported,14-18 but luminescence from organogallium compounds is not known. In this Note, we report the luminescence, excitation, and absorption spectra of Me2GaN3 as the polycrystalline solid and in frozen glasses and solution. Surprisingly, the luminescence spectra from the solid and solution are very similar. Raman vibrational spectra show that the species in the solid and in solution are also very similar. The spectra, the nature of the species in solution, and the assignment of the lowest energy excited state are discussed. Experimental Section

Synthesis and luminescence properties of iridium(III) azide- and triazole-bisterpyridine complexes.

We describe here the synthesis of azide-functionalised iridium(III) bisterpyridines using the "chemistry on the complex" strategy. The resulting azide-complexes are then used in the copper(I)-catalysed azide-alkyne Huisgen 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition "click chemistry" reaction to from the corresponding triazole-functionalised iridium(III) bisterpyridines. The photophysical characteristics, includ...

Rare Earth Nitrate Complexes with an ONO Schiff Base Ligand: Spectral, Thermal, Luminescence and Biological Studies

Five rare earth complexeslanthanum(III),praseodymium(III),neodymium(III), samarium(III) and europium(III) have been synthesized from Schiff base ligand (N,N-bis (2-hydroxy-1-naphthylidene) acetylhydrazone). The complexes were characterized based on elemental analysis, molar conductance, ultraviolet, infrared, mass, thermogravimetric and powder X-ray diffraction studies. Infrared spectra sug...

Induction of light emission by luminescent bacteria treated with UV light and chemical mutagens.

Intensity of light emission by luminescent bacteria in response to UV irradiation and chemical mutagens was tested. We demonstrated that luminescence of six strains of marine bacteria (belonging to four species: Photobacterium leiognathi, P. phosphoreum, Vibrio fischeri and V. harveyi) is significantly increased by UV irradiation relatively shortly after dilution of cultures. Such a stimulation...

Design and synthesis of theranostic antibiotic nanodrugs that display enhanced antibacterial activity and luminescence.

We report the modular formulation of ciprofloxacin-based pure theranostic nanodrugs that display enhanced antibacterial activities, as well as aggregation-induced emission (AIE) enhancement that was successfully used to image bacteria. The drug derivatives, consisting of ciprofloxacin, a perfluoroaryl ring, and a phenyl ring linked by an amidine bond, were efficiently synthesized by a straightf...

Direct observation of singlet oxygen production by merocyanine 540 associated with phosphatidylcholine liposomes.

The production of singlet molecular oxygen (1O2) by the photosensitizing dye merocyanine 540 (MC540) bound to phosphatidylcholine liposomes has been demonstrated by direct detection of 1O2 luminescence at 1268 nm. 1O2 phosphorescence emission was enhanced in deuterated buffer and upon saturation of the sample with oxygen and could be quenched by the addition of sodium azide to the external medi...
